We have been created in God's image, and what God created is good! This includes how God created us as sexual beings. Human sexuality can be a difficult subject between parent and child and that is why, as a church, we feel it is important to equip parents to have conversations with their child about related topics. Our culture can portray sexuality in very misleading ways. We need to be dialoguing with our children early to present the Biblical perspective, and as parents share our values with our children. That is why our church offers the SHINE program. Each course is presented from the framework of a Biblical perspective rooted in the foundational scripture of Genesis 1:27-31, "So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. . . God saw all that he had made, and it was very good."
Puber-Tea is offered for 4th & 5th Grade girls and their mothers. It is an engaging 2 ½ hour course that covers the basics of the physical and emotional chances that girls will soon go through with the onset of puberty. The class takes place annually in the fall.
Fall 2012 Class Dates TBDGuy Talk is offered for 4th & 5th Grade boys and their fathers. During this 2 ½ hour course boys will learn good hygiene habits and the basics of the physical and emotional changes of puberty. The class takes place annually in the Spring.
Spring 2012 class March 20thRites of Passage is a course for 6th grade students and their parents (boys and girls taught separately). This 7-week course is the next step in building the bonds between parent and child as we discuss the changes of puberty in greater depth. This course will help prepare tweens for adolescence and help them know they are not alone on the journey to growing up! Also covered during the course are topics such as social media, self-esteem, menstruation, and peer pressure. The class takes place annually in the winter.
