IPC Contacts: Tim Avazian
Michelle Drever

Each summer our Jr. High students partner with the Center for Student Mission in an urban area of the United States. They have served in Los Angeles and San Francisco partnering with ministries and learning about life in these multi-ethnic and economically diverse cities.

Each year the students and leaders live in the city for a week long experience. While living in the city, they begin to understand the needs of the working poor and homeless by going on a "Prayer Tour" of the city, doing a "Scavenger Hunt" in the inner-city, traveling by public transportation, cooking a meal on a VERY limited budget, and by finding a homeless person, taking them to breakfast and asking them about their lives. They have served a variety of ministries, in a variety of settings The Los Angeles Food Bank, The Midnight Mission on Los Angeles' Skid Row, The Long Beach Rescue Mission, The Light House Church of God in Christ in Watts, The Salvation Army's Preschool in South Central Los Angeles, The Salvation Army in San Francisco's Tenderloin District, Project Open Hand serving meals to those with HIV/AIDS.

Through this week long experience God has opened our student's minds and hearts to a world much different from their own.
